NUVARING® Hormonal Contraceptive

NUVARING®is a hormonal contraceptive that is made by Organon USA, Inc, Organon Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. LLC. Another birth control product that’s been the subject of much controversy, is the Ortho Evra birth control patch, which has been linked to blood clot related injuries including pulmonary embolisms and deep vein thrombosis.

However, its application is different from ‘the patch,’ as the NUVARING®is inserted into the vagina and worn for three weeks at a time and not worn during the fourth week.

Known Side Effects of NUVARING® Birth Control:

• Vaginal infections and irritation
• Vaginal discharge (leukorrhea)
• Headache
• Upper respiratory tract infection
• Sinusitis
• Weight gain
• Nausea

How does the NUVARING® Work?

NUVARING®releases hormones into the woman’s system, and these hormones help prevent unwanted pregnancies.  If the NUVARING® is used properly, it has proven to be 99% effective in performing its intended duties.  The advantage of the NUVARING® is that the woman does not need to follow a strict, daily regimen of taking a pill in order to prevent pregnancies.  She only needs to remember to change the NUVARING® once per week and then not use it during the fourth week.
